Jonas Armstrong was born in Mount Carmel Hospital, Dublin, Ireland on
the 1st January 1981, exactly one minute after midnight on New Years
Eve, the first baby born in Ireland that year. His parents moved to St.
Annes in Lancashire when Jonas was six years of age. He is the oldest
of three and has two siblings - a brother and a sister. Jonas says he
is a typical Capricorn and that his friends have nicknamed him 'Monas'
on account of his 'fondness' for complaining. Jonas is 6ft tall with
brown hair and blue eyes.

His special skills listed on
his RADA profile include Stage Combat, Period Dance, Flamenco, Accents,
Guitar and Tennis.
Other experience includes Taps Short Film, Edinburgh Fringe, Buxton Fringe Theatre, Isle of Man Festival and National Student Drama Festival
His interests include playing
guitar, writing, sketching, football and tennis.

Stage Career

Jonas had a successful stage career after leaving RADA and appeared on
stage in several plays including playing Derek Meadle in Quartermaines
Terms at the Royal Theatre Northampton. It was described by one critic
as a cross between "Teachers" and "Please Sir"

Teachers

|

In 2004 Jonas had a minor
role/part as extra in the TV Series Island at War. He then went on to
star as student Anthony Millington in the successful Channel 4 series
Teachers. He only appeared in series 4 but made quite an impact

Ghost Squad

|

In 2005 Jonas starred in the
gritty police drama Ghost Squad as Pete Maitland. His co-star was
Elaine Cassidy. Sadly the show only had one season but is now being
shown in Australia and has been released in France on DVD.

Losing Gemma

|

In 2006 Jonas went to
India to play the part of Steve in an adaptation of the popular book by
Katy Gardner - Losing Gemma. This was shown on ITV in December of that
year, a week before the penultimate episode of Robin Hood series 1

In 2006 Jonas also took on the
iconic role of Robin Hood . The new adaptation by Dominic Minghella and
Foz Allan has been a worldwide success and has gripped the imagination
of a new generation of viewers.

Future Projects

|

Jonas is currently filming
Clive Barkers Book of Blood which is due for release in December 2008.
He will also be filming a third series of Robin Hood which will air in
Autumn 2008.
This is expected to be the last time Jonas will don his Robin Hood
guise but he has ensured his place in history as the Robin Hood for
this generation. He will be a tough act to follow for the next RH.
