Jonas as Pete Maitland in
Ghost Squad by Lucky [Wales]
Ahhh Pete. Star Quality or
what!! This is what started the swooning/drooling - for me anyway
It's
testament to Jonas' acting ability that a show which was, lets be
honest, made to showcase Elaine Cassidy's talents, is mainly remembered
for the character of Pete. It's also testament to Jonas' maturity as an
actor that he never once tried to steal Elaines' thunder. If anything,
he downplayed his onscreen presence in scenes with her allowing her the
opportunity to show what a very capable actress she is.
But
the boy can't help it, he's gifted, and his onscreen presence and
natural affinity with the camera ensured that he stole every scene
whether he was trying too or not.
I'm
a huge fan of crime/police dramas but not generally a fan of British
offerings. Yet again it was my sister who watched the first eppy of
this and then sent me a recording of it telling me to watch it if only
for the rather tasty (understatement of the decade) lad in it. I duly
did as instructed and I was hooked.
The
character of Pete Maitland was a joy to watch develop, I only wish
there had been more than one series and that he had been more central
to the storylines in every episode. I found myself waiting for Pete to
appear because he brought an edginess and excitement factor whenever he
appeared onscreen.
I wasn't overly impressed with
the comment made about Wales in episode 6, and I dearly hope he didnt
ad-lib that, but once again it was testament to his ability as an actor
that I laughed along with everyone else, because the line was delivered
with a huge dollop of tongue in cheek. Some actors could have delivered
that line in a very different way and had Ofcom buzzing with
complaints. But not Jonas, he brings the same fun and cheeky quality to
Pete that he does to every part he plays.
Jonas
displays a sensitivity in this role that has you questioning whether he
was really 24 years old. The other thing that impressed me was his
affinity with women (not in that way!). His co-stars were both females
and the majority of his scenes were with women. Some actors might have
struggled with this but not our Jonas. If anything it brought out the
best in him. This is a man who likes the company of woman and respects
women and that comes across in his portrayal of Pete.
Another
sterling performance from Jonas.
Jonas as Pete Maitland in
Ghost Squad by Katie [Edinburgh]
I just love Pete, have been a
fan of Jonas since the first second I saw him in this fantastic series.
Pete
Maitland is a fantastic character, and Jonas was fantastic in this
role. There was a great chemistry between Jonas and Elaine Cassidy, and
the two of them worked very well together.
As
with Robin Hood, Jonas brought something special to this role, his
cheekiness, the way he flirted with Amy, and that little sparkle that
he always has in his eye.
My
favourite part, and the episode where you just felt so sad with Pete,
was the episode where he befriended the man who was in jail .. he
showed so much compassion and empathy for him, and Jonas acted his
little socks off in this episode.
A first rate performance by
Jonas in this series.
Jonas as Pete Maitland in
Ghost Squad by Alex [Belgium] (Lucky's little Belgian Truffle!)
Jonas's acting is brilliant on
that series. Pete is a great character! I really love it!
Jonas
gives Pete a lot of emotions and we can feel his pain or his joy
throughout the episodes.
There
is a nice complicity between Jonas and Elaine Cassidy. They really work
well together! You want to know where this duo is taking us.
As
always, Jonas's smile, sparkling eyes and cheekiness are a plus for the
role.
I
still wonder why only 1 series… it could have deserved a
second one !
Jonas
has played brilliantly during the whole series!
Jonas as Pete Maitland in
Ghost Squad by by Charlee (Ms Brightside) [England]
Firstly Ghost Squad in itself
is so amazing that I cannot believe that i missed it. Although the
shakey camera work does seem to annoy when the action hots up. It was
either done this way to create an atmosphere, which it does not, or it
was just a cheap camera man who got hired and had an usteady hand.
However
on the brighter side of reviews, Elaine Cassidy is so convincing as the
naive and somewhat narrow minded Amy that you essential consider her to
be your best friend, you feel her every emotion, from dealing with the
failure of her affair to her frustration with the system. She deals
with the black and white, good guy bad guy image that is trying to be
portrayed by Emma Fielding's character, DS Carol McKay, so well that we
can see it for the mass of grey that it is. We get so engrossed in the
betrayal of Amy, by McKay and Pete, that we are almost given an
insentive to hate them, although this never really occurs.
Having said that, Pete is the
big brother we all need, with the added bonus of him being JA. He knows
that McKay wants to pull the wool over his and Amy's eyes regarding
what is really happening, but justs goes about his job anyway. Happily
being a cog in the ever expanding wheels of the series. Like us, he
cares for Amy when she is down, or on a "job", the impression is given
that he wants more from their relationship but he is keeping those
feelings to himself because of the work colleague/dipping the
preverbial nib in the office taboo.
When he creates photos in
episode 8/9 I got the impression that he did not want to do it but the
pressure he is under from McKay forces him to try and sabotage her
relationship with the "target".
In the opening episode he is
caring and compassionate towards Amy and gives a genuine impression
that he wants to help her. Again the shakey camera detracts from the
quality of acting, which is very high but the story lines became
increasingly similar with Pete become more and more prominant in each.
He contrasts to Amy in the sense that he thinks everything through and
she is a hearts on sleeve kind of girl, and the chemistry created is
immense.
All
in all a brilliant performance by JA and I am thorughly impressed.
